Religion limits gospel musicians’ marketability – Abena Ruthy

Gospel musician and banker Abena Ruthy says religion limits the marketability of Ghanaian gospel musicians.

Abena Ruthy known in real life as Ruthy Benny Wood, feels gospel musicians are tagged as unmarketable by corporate bodies due to the diverse forms of religion in Ghana.

In an interview on This Is Gospel with Franky 5 on Hitz FM she refuted claims gospel artistes are unmarketable but stressed that religion limited marketability.

“In our setting as Ghanaians, we have so many religions, Christianity, and the rest. If we should pick someone from Christianity to appeal to all the different religions, someone might not like what’s offered due to it being Christian bias,” she explained.

She added that “that I think is what prevents the people (corporate bodies) from choosing the gospel musicians rather than saying we are not marketable.”

Abena Ruthy also advised marketers to develop products that appeal to the Christians.

“If they would want to separate the gospel events from their secular sides and try to get products that appeal to the gospel people, they will see that we are very marketable,” she added.

Abena Ruthy recently released her second album, ‘Higher Praise’ and is managed by Media Excel Promotion.
